<br>Hypernatremia involves dehydration, which can have many causes, including not drinking enough fluids, diarrhea, kidney dysfunction, and taking diuretics. Mainly, people are thirsty, and if hypernatremia worsens, they may become confused or have muscle twitches and seizures. Blood tests are done to measure the sodium level. Usually, fluids are given intravenously to slowly reduce the sodium level in the blood. Sodium is one of the body's electrolytes, which are minerals that carry an electric charge when dissolved in body fluids such as blood. In hypernatremia, the body contains too little water for the amount of sodium. The sodium level in the blood becomes abnormally high when water loss exceeds sodium loss. Usually, hypernatremia results from dehydration. Insufficient water intake usually plays an important role. To maintain water balance, healthy adults should consume at least 6 glasses (about 1½ quarts, or 2 liters) of fluid a day. Total fluid intake includes drinking water or other beverages, as well as eating foods with a high water content, such as fruits, vegetables, and soup.<br>

When the kidneys are functioning normally, the body can handle wide variations in fluid intake. Healthy adults should consume at least 6 glasses (about 1½ quarts, or 2 liters) of fluid a day (including fluid from eating foods high in water content, such as fruits and vegetables). People with diabetes mellitus and high blood sugar levels may urinate excessive amounts, causing dehydration. Dehydration can also be caused by kidney disorders and by arginine vasopressin resistance, which also causes people to urinate excessive amounts, although without high blood sugar levels, and is due to inadequate or ineffective vasopressin secretion or action. Vasopressin is a hormone that helps the kidneys conserve water. Rarely, adrenal gland disorders can cause mild hypernatremia without dehydration. Excessive administration of salt (usually in hospitalized people) is another rare cause of hypernatremia. Hypernatremia is most common among older adults. Hypernatremia typically causes thirst. The most serious symptoms of hypernatremia result from brain dysfunction. Severe hypernatremia can lead to confusion (delirium), muscle twitching (myoclonus), seizures, coma, and death. Doctors may do further testing to identify the cause of the hypernatremia, including measurements of urine volume and concentration. <br>Over the decades there have been many different things said about cod liver oil, and whether we should be taking it. It used to be a standard supplement for children and pregnant woman, before falling out of favour. It is interesting to note that both Vitamin A and Vitamin D are needed for reproductive health, and infertility is now quite common. It’s certainly not the whole reason, but it seems likely that it’s part of the picture. In Dec 08, some findings by the Vitamin D council have made this even more contentious. The Weston A Price foundation defended cod liver oil, while Dr Mercola has revised his recommendations and told people not to take it. Below is Sally Fallon’s article addressing his concerns, but first, here’s my thoughts. Even the best of foods isn’t good for everybody, and there will be some people who it isn’t beneficial for at certain times.<br>

<br>I often use kinesiology and muscle test my clients to see whether specific supplements are good for them, including CLO, so you could find a kinesiologist in your area who can test what you need. Otherwise, have a think about where your vitamin A and D are coming from. Unless you’re eating a lot of liver butter or seafood, it’s probably beneficial. But personally, I prefer to get my vitamins from food, so would choose nutrient dense whole foods, including cod liver oil, and ditch the multi-vitamins. Unless, of course, you are taking Vitamin A or D under [medical supervision](https://www.gameinformer.com/search?keyword=medical%20supervision). If you choose to take cod liver oil, the other thing to take into account is that modern processing has ruined a perfectly good food for us, and almost all cod liver oils now have only synthetic vitamins in them. To my knowledge, the only cod liver oil that still has natural vitamin A and vitamin D is the Green Pastures fermented cod liver oil and skate liver oil range.<br>
